New Median Wage Increase Brings Changes to Visa Applications: Act Fast or Miss Out

Median Wage Increase Impacts Accredited Employer Work Visas and Residence Applications

Starting Monday, 27th February, the median wage in the country will be increased to $29.66 per hour (or a salary of $61,692.80 based on a 40 hour work week). This new median wage will be used to assess applications for Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWV) and most residence applications where job offers or income thresholds are required.

The increased median wage will apply to AEWV and residence applications submitted on or after 27th February 2023. This means if you are preparing to submit an AEWV or residence application and your current hourly wage is less than $29.66, your only option is to apply before the deadline. Applications submitted after the 27th February 2023 will require a new job check to be processed and approved, along with proof that your employer has increased your pay.

The residence categories that will be affected by the new median wage include the Green List and Highly Paid pathways, the Skilled Migrant Category, and the Parent Category.

Getting all the necessary documents together for a visa application can be a time-consuming process. There may be delays with obtaining police certificates, immigration medicals, and tracking down key documents. To make the process smoother, it is recommended to seek the help of experienced licensed immigration advisers who can provide tips and advice to help you move forward quickly.

In conclusion, the increased median wage will impact many individuals who are looking to apply for AEWV or residence visas. If you are one of them, it's crucial to act fast and submit your application before the deadline. Working with an experienced immigration adviser can also make the process easier and quicker.
